Your Questions Answered

What areas do you cover?

We serve Dumfries, Lockerbie, Castle Douglas, Annan, Thornhill and the wider Dumfries & Galloway region. As a genuinely local company, we understand rural properties, coastal environments and the specific heating challenges common in our area.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes, all our gas work is carried out by fully qualified Gas Safe registered engineers. We also hold OFTEC registration for oil-fired systems and MCS certification for renewable installations, including air source heat pumps.

What is an air source heat pump?

An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air and uses it to warm your home and provide hot water. Even when the air feels cold, there’s still usable heat energy that the pump can capture and transfer indoors. Heat pumps are highly efficient and significantly reduce carbon emissions compared to traditional heating systems.

Are air source heat pumps suitable for older properties?

Yes, but proper assessment is essential. Older properties may require additional insulation, radiator upgrades or other modifications to work efficiently with a heat pump. As Heat Geek certified installers, we carry out detailed heat loss calculations and system design to ensure your property is suitable or identify what improvements might be needed.

How much do air source heat pumps cost?

Costs vary depending on property size, system capacity, radiator requirements and whether a new hot water cylinder is needed. We install Worcester Bosch, Vaillant and Grant heat pumps, and we’ll provide a transparent, detailed quotation based on your specific property and requirements.

How long does an air source heat pump installation take?

Most domestic installations take between three and five days, depending on the complexity of the project. We’ll provide a clear installation plan outlining each stage and keep you informed throughout.

What boiler brands do you install?

We primarily install Worcester Bosch and Vaillant boilers. Both are premium brands known for reliability and performance. As accredited installers for both manufacturers, we can offer enhanced warranties on their products.

How long does a boiler replacement take?

A straightforward boiler replacement typically takes one to two days. More complex installations involving system upgrades, pipework modifications or cylinder replacements may take longer. We’ll provide a clear timeframe when we quote for the work.

Do I need to replace my radiators when installing a new boiler?

Not necessarily. If your radiators are in good condition and appropriately sized for the rooms, they can usually remain. However, if you’re switching to a heat pump, radiator sizing becomes more critical, and upgrades may be recommended.

What’s the difference between a combi boiler and a system boiler?

A combi boiler heats water on demand and doesn’t require a separate hot water cylinder. A system boiler works with a cylinder to store hot water. The right choice depends on your property size, water usage patterns and available space. We’ll advise on the most suitable option for your home.

How often should I service my boiler?

Annual servicing is recommended for all boilers, and it’s usually a requirement to maintain manufacturer warranties. Regular servicing identifies potential issues before they become serious problems.

Do you service air source heat pumps?

Yes, we offer servicing and maintenance for air source heat pumps. Like any mechanical system, heat pumps benefit from regular checks to ensure they’re operating efficiently and reliably.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes, we provide heating services for commercial properties, including offices, shops, agricultural buildings and industrial premises. Our commercial work includes gas and oil systems, air source heat pumps and heating design for larger projects.

Do you charge for surveys?

For most projects, site surveys are provided free of charge when we’re quoting for work. We’ll confirm this when you first get in touch.
